With the visa for job seekers in accordance with Section 20 (1) and (2) of the Residence Act (AufenthG), you improve your chances of making contact with German employers and finding a job in Germany that matches your qualifications. The visa allows interested skilled workers from third countries who have a recognised university degree or vocational qualification to stay in Germany for a maximum of six months to look for a job that matches their qualifications. During this time, you are allowed to work up to ten hours a week on a paid trial basis.

  • foreign researchers
  • foreign skilled workers who have completed vocational training in Germany

Requirements for a visa for job seekers

  • Completed education: You can prove that you have completed vocational or academic qualifications.
  • Comparability of the qualification: Your qualification is recognised in Germany or is comparable to a German educational qualification. We will be happy to assist you with this in a personal consultation.
  • Secured livelihood: You can prove that your livelihood is secured for the entire duration of your stay. You can, for example, submit a blocked account or a declaration of commitment as proof of secure means of subsistence.

 

The visa or residence permit for job seekers can be issued for a maximum of six months. Once you have found a job that matches your qualifications, you can apply for an EU Blue Card or a residence permit for skilled workers from the relevant Foreigners Authority in Germany without having to leave Germany first.
